Solo Escape – How to enjoy alone fun time in Lagos

After a series of hard knuckle weeks at work, everyone deserves a Thai cuisine and a bumper ride across the ocean, but as an average earner, this will leave a big hole in the pocket.

Fun doesn’t have to be that expensive, you can always have a pocket friendly solo fun, just you, having some fun, giggling and springing around the city of Lagos painting it in any colors you want to. How good does that sound to you?

Having fun in Lagos can be a series of many things. You could do it as a group, with travelling communities, pairing you together with other interested travelers, you could also be your own compass and direct yourself through different places. Today, I will share my thoughts with you on how to have that solo fun time, things you should check out for in Lagos, how much you are likely to spend, and how to plan effectively, which include logistics and a place to crash if need be. Shall we?

How Solo Can It Be?

Well, solo doesn’t necessarily mean absence of people, right? I really don’t think there is any place you can have that perfect alone time, except you want to be in a forest, or on a solitude mountain somewhere meditating, or probably an underground tour. All of these doesn’t spell fun. Solo here means you alone, having fun with anything and everything possible. It means skating with a bunch of strangers, it means scooping that ice cream alone in a park with people with different ethics and doings, minding their own business. What I’m saying is that, you have time to yourself, away from work, friends, families or calls from your suitors (as you please…). Now that we’ve come to an understanding, let’s dive right into my suggestions.

1. A walk through the markets:

How much of cultural value do you embrace? Lagos is famous with markets like the Balogun and the ikotun market. It is a different world of arts, colors, people of different kinds, aroma’s and local craftsmanship. If I were you, I’ll book a ride, visit one of these markets, and have some fun. I know you’re probably thinking right now, what fun is in a market? Well let me tell what you probably can do.

  • Try the price battle. I do this a lot. I go to a market when I’m bored, I sight something of interest. Maybe a kiosk with hand rings and beads, I try to buy things at the lowest price I can. It is always fun and humorous when we have series of vendors side by side, selling the same thing. Everyone wants a customer, so they fight to sell to you. I use this to enjoy seeing how people can go the extra mile to sell to me. Also, as a strategist myself, I find pleasure in developing my negotiation skills. It is a whole level of fun.
  • Sampling of street foods – In popular markets like the Balogun market, you can eat from different vendors. You could have a taste of different foods, it is called “Sampling before buying”. Some food enthusiast does this a lot to get recipe ideas. Trust me, these street guys would knock you into eating more with them. They have got skills in developing sumptuous and tasty meals. Eating by the street side is a life of its own. There is a different energy to it.

There are many other things like having conversations with strangers, checking of art works, watching different dramas of advertisers, all of these are what you can experience with little.

I would mention, as a part of fun, I suggest you make it a full trip, book a vehicle, and you can as well crash(i.e sleep) for the night within the vicinity before heading back home. If this is what you would love to try, check out Hostel.ng, they provide safe and easy-going rides across Lagos and as well a place to crash for the night at a cheap rate. You should try them out. All you would need do is to create an account with them by clicking Here, book a ride of your choosing, and make payments, they will be with you driving you around as much as you want.

2. Tour historical Places

As classy as Lagos might sound to you, we’ve got history too, I’m speaking as a Lagosian now. Every state has got a story to tell, and if you’re a great listener and a huge fan of historical tales and view, then you can have a beautiful time in Lagos.

So, let assume you want to get to know more and see more about Lagos, where are the places you can check? I’ll suggest the following:

The historic Badagry slave routes
The National Museum
The Lekki Conservation Center, etc.

These places provide jaw dropping sights, historical tales, and some fun activities. My favorite is the Lekki conservation center, there you get to enjoy a canopy walk. It is always a scary and fun moment if you’re easily triggered by heights.

3. Unwinding process in bikini:

Beaches in Nigeria are worth the hype, trust me. The beaches are a perfect place to unwind and relax. The views, the clashes from the tides, the peaceful swim, are all that glorifies a beach. If you have thoughts to visit a beach in Lagos, I suggest the following –

The Tarkwa Bay
The Elegushi Beach
Landmark Beach

The activities here can be a little pricey, but you can still have some fun with the sight, if you choose to be pocket conscious. As stated earlier, Hostel.ng can provide you with the accommodation and ride you need for a perfect solo escape.

I would have loved to go on and on, but try those out, and send me a gift card if you find them relaxing. Before I leave, don’t forget you can also embark on a gastronomic adventure, trying out diverse street food, local delicacies and international cuisines. It depends on your budget though, but if you choose to go all out, drivers booked via hostel.ng are experienced with the layout of Lagos, and they can always give quality suggestions.
I look forward to getting a gift card from you. Bye
