Lagos Street Life: Top Nibbles You Should Try on the Lagos Streets.

Lagos streets are not ordinary. Forget fancy restaurants, the real magic happens right under your nose – on the sizzling hot streets. From smoky grills to mama put joints. I won’t forget the “steamed black polythene rice, with steam and oil dripping from all corners of the polythene rear. I can’t forget the adopted “wanke” style across different corners in major night areas like Agege, Ketu, and many others…

For the street life, I don’t believe there is another that best Lagos. You can tell me if there’s any. Don’t get me wrong, every other state has most of these if not all, but when it comes to Lagos, trust me, Nobody’s badder !!!

Here’s the inside scoop on the must-try Lagos street eats

Suya Alert :

You haven’t lived in Lagos until you’ve had piping hot suya. This skewered meat (beef, ram – you pick!) is grilled to smoky perfection and dusted with that secret spice blend that’ll have your taste buds doing backflips. Don’t forget the fascinating chopped onions and cooling cabbage to balance the heat.

Have you just landed in Lagos, look no further, step out into the night and look for a suya joint, don’t miss the rejuvenating feeling of the smooth, fleshy bites.

If you’re new in Lagos, you can pick some lodgings on Hostel.ng, here you can find rooms that are not far from this nightlife experience. Click Here

Ewa Agoyin for the Win:

This Lagos classic is pure comfort food. Soft, mashed beans bathed in a spicy pepper sauce, often served with Agege bread (trust us, it’s different!). If you slam it with sliced bread, you’re getting it all wrong. The agege bread works best, most especially when it has a thick surface and is soft inwardly.

This is perfect for a quick bite or a full-on belly buster, ewa agoyin is a Lagos staple you gotta try.
Just so you know, with hostel.ng lodgings, you’re very close to experiencing this Lagos lifestyle if you’re in for the thrill.

Boli and the Gang:

Forget fries, Lagos gives bananas for boli (roasted plantain). Sweet or savory, it’s the perfect on-the-go snack.  Pair it with grilled fish, or some shombo pepper sauce, or just enjoy it plain. Boli is so versatile, it’s like your Lagos BFF – always there for you.

The experience hasn’t changed for me, even with luxury, this local cuisine still bangs. It hits harder when you’re beneath the giant umbrella while the woman fans the roasting boli and the smoke travels to your eyelids and you shed a few drops to claim your hot boli.

Funny, but true. If you’re in for the experience, then these street foods will get you telling stories to your children, most especially when they are “silver inclined”.

Ensure when you tell the story, you give details.

If you know any other street food I’ve missed, ensure you leave a comment, I’ll be glad to try it out.

With a full belly of ewa agoyin and many others, you’ll be ready to conquer more of Lagos.

Don’t forget, Hostel.ng has budget-friendly rooms and apartments across the city, so you can find your perfect spot close to all the deliciousness. Book your stay with Hostel.ng and experience Lagos like a true Lagosian!
