Budget Travel Hacks: Exploring on a Student’s Budget

Being a student means a lot, especially when the schooling system is determined to drain every bit of cash flow you have. The struggle has always been juggling between different expenses that find their way to crawl to the top of the list: tuition fees, handouts/textbooks, food, association dues, transportation fees, and the list is endless. It then seems as though students are restricted from having time to themselves.

In most cases, when students are presented with or envision traveling or going for a fun sprint, the restricting factor has always been, “I don’t have enough.” If this is you, this article will briefly share with you some budget hacks and how to have that trip, get some funds, and not run out of money.

Hack Number One: Include Fun in the Bucket List:

I know you were probably expecting some accounting lingo on how to manage your money to afford travel. Yeah, we will get there, but before that, it is quite paramount to include fun in your bucket list and don’t be quick to take it out. Being intentional about wanting to have that fun time is the first step to actually having it. I don’t have a quote to back this up if you were expecting wisdom from a Thai monk. My point is, before you begin to look at the numbers, you should write it down in the list of things you want to do and set your mind that you will do it.

Hack Number Two: Utilize University-Provided Platforms:

The university provides a plethora of entertainment platforms and programs, ranging in different prices. The first step is to keep an eye out for any tours from your department or the school association. Your preferences for fun may differ from mine; however, the university is a place where different entertainment sought after can be met with the required enjoyable experience. Find one that you feel comfortable with. The reason for this is that the university considers many factors before setting up pricing, and in most cases, the pricing is always favorable for as many students who want to engage in the fun process.

Hack Number Three: Save Ahead:

Now, let’s move to the part where we get the money. Now that you have included your desired fun in the bucket list and you have sought and sized these opportunities on a subsidized budget, the next step is to save. I know this is quite challenging, as savings will require that you set aside something for something else unless you have an overflow of funds.

Savings allow you to put money bit by bit together until it is enough to get what you want. The question is this: how do I save better?

Saving Tips You Might Want to Consider:

  • Keep your funds in a secure place where you don’t have full access to. I would not suggest keeping it with friends; you could consider online savings platforms that hold your money for a while until the stipulated time you need it.
  • Earn a little more: Savings require discipline, but it also requires having more earning power. You might want to explore other ways to generate extra income. If you have a conducive hostel room, live alone, and are willing to lease out your room for payment, then you can explore platforms like hostel.ng. This way, you get to earn extra funds for yourself. Start here: www.hostel.ng/host
  • Truly Save: As mentioned earlier, savings require discipline. Sometimes you could earn so much and save so little or not save at all. It takes extra discipline on your end to save.

I believe that with these few tips, you can explore on a low budget and get the desired fun you need.
